This article is a great take on an issue that isn’t simple. Michelino flaunted his behavior, his film crew intentionally antagonized the park service, and pro athletes whose behavior is advertised to millions absolutely should be held to a higher standard of behavior than Joe Average. At the same time, talking about jail for a switchback cut was always completely ludicrous. I’m disappointed that this became political and that there wasn’t a pathway towards more of a middle ground where Michelino showed remorse and humility and the government admitted that the switchback cut was really no big deal.

Arrogance by any pro athlete has no place in society. These people are generally overpaid for what they do and should be grateful to the public for their support.

In this case the best solution is to fine the offender a great deal of money so that it hurts and requires community service….in this case 100 hours of trail cleanup.
