Appreciate you writing about this, Kyle. I’d add that no one should start a hard goods company either. There’s a lot that will be lost not just in the industry but in the culture of the outdoors with so many small businesses downsizing or shuttering their doors.

I agree with you on starting a product-based brand, but what about a service? IMO there's no better time, as people are becoming wary of big consolidations and are looking for experiences that are meaningful. I'm going to bet on people wanting more education and understanding in nature, and not relying on guides to hold their hand through the process. There will always be a market for guiding but I have a feeling people will shift more to DIY and want the knowledge that has been otherwise held up in an ivory tower. And then hopefully that will help create some more demand for more technical gear!
